Solar Thermal

There is yet another type of solar energy converter and is known as the solar thermal collector and is
mostly used for heating water. The principle is the same as that for solar electric, except that these
thermal collectors consist of absorption panels made out of black-colored glass and/or black rubber
on the outside with rows of tubing inside.

These solar thermal collectors work by having the black pipes filled up with water and as the sun's
rays shine on the outer surface, it quickly heats up the tubes and which in turn heats up the water
inside. As the hot water is used up, the pipes are refilled with new water and the cycle continues.
